Bark is in demand for tannin. Stem exudates and the wood ash are used as a mordant in dyeing. The timber is used for furniture making and boat building, particularly boat spars. It is an excellent fuel and yields first-class charcoal. Flower and leaf of Cassia fistula yields essential oils.Pods are strong purgative. The bark is laxative.
