Behaviour
The Indian Pond Heron uses many types of shallow aquatic habitats,fresh or salt,natural or human made. It feed primarily by Standing either in or out of water or mud. It also feed by walking ,usually with extremely slow and stealthy steps.When walking ,it often uses Head Bobbing. It tend to use different behaviour in different habitats. Pond Heron also uses more active behaviour. It runs after insects,uses bill vibrating, Diving and jumping from branches and rocks, Dipping and Hover feeding (Grimwood and Brocklehurst 1984 Sodhi 1986, Sivasubramanian 1988).
Body Features
An Egret-like marsh bird chiefly earthy brown when at rest, but with the glistening white wings,tail and rump flashing in to prominence immediately in flies.In breeding season acquires maroon hair-like plumes on back,and long white occipital crest.Sexes alike.
